Greetings — Defendy

Tip: change one option at a time and verify the result in the group so false positives are easy to spot.

In short

Greetings send reusable Telegram-native messages to new members. They can include formatted text, media, variables and buttons.

How it works

When a member joins, Defendy loads the active greeting phrases.
It chooses a random phrase or the first active phrase and substitutes member and group variables.
The resulting text, media and buttons are sent to the selected topic and optionally auto-deleted.

Set it up step by step

Open Defendy in Telegram and choose the group you want to configure.
Compare the current values with the defaults explained below.
Change one option at a time; use the least disruptive value that meets your goal.
Check the result in the group after saving.

Every setting explained

Enable greetings

Default: Off.

Sends a greeting when a member joins.

Random phrase

Default: On.

Chooses one active greeting randomly instead of always using the default.

Default phrase

Default: 0.

When random selection is off, the first active greeting in the list is used. There is no separate selector in the WebApp.

Auto-delete

Default: 0.

Deletes the greeting after: never, 5, 10 or 30 minutes, or 1 hour. The default is never.

Greeting topic

Default: Not set.

Optional forum topic for greeting messages. Turn off the global topic and send /setgreetingtopic in the target topic.

Silent send

Default: On.

Sends greetings without a push notification.

Inline buttons

Default: None.

URL, popup, alert and copy buttons can be attached to a phrase.

Practical example

Create one short active greeting with {mention}, a rules button and no media. Test all variables, then add a second phrase and enable random rotation only after both messages work.

Recommendations

Keep greetings short in active chats; use buttons for rules or onboarding links.
Preview formatted text before saving because Telegram supports only a limited HTML subset.

Troubleshooting

Check that Defendy is still an administrator in the group.
Refresh the settings panel and make sure you are editing the correct group.
If a setting is saved but does not work, check the bot permissions in Telegram.
If you are not sure what happened, open the moderation log.
