Greetings

Set up in the Mini App#

Open Settings in your private chat with @defendy_bot, select the group under My groups and check its name at the top.

1. Open Greeting and enable it.
2. Choose Manage texts → Add text. Enter the message, optionally attach a photo or video, then tap Save.
3. Keep the desired texts active. Select a default text when random selection is off.
4. Configure automatic deletion, silent delivery and the destination topic if needed.

Switches and selectors save when changed. In a separate form with a Save button, save before leaving. If a request fails, reopen the section to check its actual values.

In short#

Greetings send reusable Telegram-native messages to new members. They can include formatted text, media, variables and buttons.

How it works#

1. When a member joins, Defendy loads the active greeting phrases.
2. It chooses a random phrase or the selected active phrase and substitutes member and group variables.
3. The resulting text, media and buttons are sent to the selected topic and optionally auto-deleted.

Every setting explained#

Enable greetings#

Default: Off.

Sends a greeting when a member joins.

Random phrase#

Default: On.

Chooses one active greeting randomly instead of always using the default. The switch appears when more than one phrase is saved.

Default phrase#

When random selection is off, choose an active default text in the text list. Check the resulting message in the group after changing it.

Auto-delete#

Default: Never.

Keep greetings in the chat, or remove them after 5, 10 or 30 minutes, or 1 hour. Zero means “do not delete”, not immediate deletion.

Silent send#

Default: On.

Sends the greeting without a notification sound. It does not hide the message from members.

Greeting topic#

Default: The shared bot topic.

This control appears for groups with topics. To choose a separate topic, turn off Use global topic, send /setgreetingtopic inside the desired Telegram topic, then verify the destination in the Mini App.

Practical example#

Create one active text without media: Hi, {mention}! Welcome to {group}. Read the group rules: /rules. Save it and test by having an ordinary new member join: {mention} should become their clickable mention and {group} the group name. Add another phrase and random selection after the first works.

Recommendations#

• Keep greetings short in active chats; use buttons for rules or onboarding links.
• Preview formatted text before saving because Telegram supports only a limited HTML subset.

Troubleshooting#

• Check that Defendy is still an administrator in the group.
• Refresh the settings panel and make sure you are editing the correct group.
• If a setting is saved but does not work, check the bot permissions in Telegram.
• If logging is connected and the relevant category is enabled, check the event record. The log cannot show events that were not recorded.
