Time and attempts#

The Captcha page offers 30, 60, 90, 120, 180 or 300 seconds to answer. Attempt choices are 1, 2, 3 or 5. With one attempt, the first wrong answer ends the challenge. Allow enough time for a newcomer to notice the challenge and respond.

Failure actions#

In In group mode:

• Kick removes the member but allows a later rejoin.
• Mute prevents sending messages for the chosen duration; 0 means no expiry.
• Ban blocks the member without passing the selected duration to Telegram.

A temporary mute lasts at least 60 seconds. This does not change the time allowed to solve CAPTCHA.

In Join requests mode, successful verification approves the request and failure declines it. Selecting ban additionally attempts to block the account. Selecting mute in this mode does not create a temporary in-group mute.

Neither CAPTCHA mode applies the selected ban duration in the reviewed implementation. Do not use ban as a short waiting period. A mistaken ban must be removed separately; disabling CAPTCHA does not automatically restore access.

Message destination#

In In group mode, use the shared forum topic or assign a separate one with /setcaptchatopic. This form does not expose separate switches for deleting challenge or service messages.

Check the duration after changing an action#

Changing the punishment type resets its duration to 0. If you need a temporary in-group mute, choose a finite duration again and verify the saved value; the minimum is 60 seconds. A duration field displayed for ban does not change the implementation limit described above.
