Bot permissions

Which Telegram administrator permissions Defendy needs and what features they cover. The principle of least privilege.

Defendy works only with the Telegram administrator permissions you have granted it. Grant the minimum required for the enabled modules.

Which permission covers what

Telegram permissionWhat it's for
Delete messagesFilters (anti-spam, links, forwards, profanity, stop-words), cleanup of service messages, the /del and /purge commands.
Ban membersThe /ban commands, punishments from warnings, a ban on captcha failure.
Restrict membersThe /mute commands, night mode, restriction and mute at the captcha.
Pin messagesThe /pin, /unpin, /unpinall, /repin commands.
Manage invite linksThe /revokelink command.
Manage topicsDirecting the bot's messages to forum topics (if the group is a forum).

The principle of least privilege

  • Don't grant all permissions at once. If you don't use pinning or topics, you can leave the corresponding permission ungranted.
  • After changing permissions or the set of administrators, run /reload so the bot updates its data.
  • Defendy cannot restrict Telegram administrators — this is a limitation of the platform itself.

Checking

If a setting is saved but doesn't trigger, the cause is most often a missing permission. Check the bot's permissions in the Telegram group settings and take a look at the action log.
