Captcha types

Available types#

• Button — the member confirms entry with one tap. This is the default.
• Math — the member solves a short arithmetic problem.
• Emoji — the member chooses the matching emoji.
• Question — the member answers a prepared question.
• Random — Defendy chooses one type from the selected pool. By default, all four types are included.

The adaptive type exists in the API but is not offered as a main option in the current WebApp.

Which type to choose#

Button creates the least friction and is a good starting point. Math, emoji and question captchas require more attention and may be useful during waves of unwanted joins. Random mode makes the challenge less predictable.

Watch both failed checks and reports from real members. A challenge that is too difficult can reduce successful onboarding.
