Telegram analytics bots: choose the data behind your next decision
Compare Telegram analytics by coverage, metric definitions, export and privacy. A practical way to choose reports for moderator staffing and community health.
A community dashboard should help you make a decision you can name. If you want to cover unanswered questions at weekends, an hourly activity view may help. If you want to know whether a discussion format brings people back, message totals alone will not answer it. Choose the question before choosing a bot.
This guide compares documented reporting approaches and explains how to evaluate the data. It does not rank vendors by accuracy or reproduce a hands-on test. Official sources and the referenced Defendy implementation were reviewed on October 5, 2026.
Write the question on the purchase request
“More analytics” is difficult to evaluate. “Show us when ordinary members ask questions while nobody is available to respond” is specific. You may still need a manual sample to identify questions and replies, but you know what evidence is missing.
| Decision | Evidence to request |
|---|---|
| Move a moderator shift | Activity by local hour, plus sampled response delays |
| Keep a weekly discussion | Distinct contributors and repeat participation over comparable weeks |
| Relax a filter | Moderation events and reviewed false positives, not just deletion totals |
| Review an invitation campaign | Attributed joins and later participation, with collection dates |
A dashboard may provide only part of a row. That can be sufficient: do not buy a complex integration to avoid a small, periodic manual review.
Three reporting approaches to examine
Operational analytics. Combot's API documentation describes message counts, active users and an hourly heatmap. This makes it a candidate when you need reusable activity data. Check the endpoint's plan requirement and output format; a chart on a website does not establish unrestricted API access.
Community analysis. ChatKeeper's statistics guide documents activity views, participant dynamics and chart downloads, including CSV. Ask which reports your actual plan includes. An export from one chart is not automatically a full archive of members, moderation events and configuration.
Moderation records. Rose documents admin logging with selectable categories. For a team whose main question is “who restricted this member, and why?”, an event log may be more valuable than a growth dashboard. The reviewed logging documentation is not evidence of a comparable analytics suite; absence from that page is not proof that no other reporting exists.
A separate review of Defendy's implementation confirmed per-group overview, users, moderation and reputation views in its Telegram Mini App, with period selection. That supports evaluating its administration workflow. Source code does not confirm that your account has the same deployed version, complete history or a particular paid entitlement. The statistics guide explains the intended navigation.
A better-looking number can tell the wrong story
Consider a hypothetical support community. In week one, 100 contributors post 1,000 messages. In week two, 120 contributors post 1,500. More people spoke, but the extra volume could include repeated questions or an argument. You cannot conclude that support improved without looking at response quality and unresolved requests.
Now suppose a new bot was connected halfway through week one. The apparent growth also mixes a partial observation window with a complete one. Do not turn missing history into zero activity or compare the two weeks as though collection were identical.
For each metric, write down:
- What counts as activity: a message, a reaction, a join, or another event?
- Whether administrators and automated messages are included
- Which timezone defines a day, especially around daylight-saving changes
- When collection began and whether an outage interrupted it
- Whether edits, deleted messages and users who leave affect the total
If documentation does not answer a question, mark it unknown. A precise-looking figure with an unknown definition is still unsuitable for a precise comparison.
Run a small data audit before committing
Use a private test group with consenting colleagues. Record a short sequence: ordinary text, a reply, an edit, a reaction, a join and a voluntary leave. Note the times and actors. Then inspect the relevant report after the service has had time to update.
The purpose is to discover the counting rules, not to infer production reliability from a tiny sample. Check whether a delay is documented, whether the reporting window includes the event and whether your test account is excluded. If two tools disagree, examine those definitions before declaring one inaccurate.
Next, try to retrieve a useful sample outside the interface. Open the exported file and verify dates, timezone, column meanings and whether identifiers are necessary. An image is convenient for a presentation; structured rows are more useful for recalculation. API access may require engineering work and secrets management, which belong in the cost estimate.
Access to a dashboard is access to people
Limit individual-level reports to moderators who need them. A public leaderboard and a private incident history have different audiences. Tell members what the community measures; avoid inferring that a quiet member is disengaged or deserving of removal.
Combot's privacy policy describes its data handling and retention. Read the equivalent policy for every candidate and ask what removal, account deletion and an export actually cover. Removing a bot should not be treated as proof of immediate deletion from the provider's systems.
Also review Telegram permissions. The Bot FAQ distinguishes what administrator bots and privacy-enabled bots receive. Do not grant punishment rights merely because a reporting setup requests administrator status; map each permission to a documented function.
A practical decision rule
Choose the smallest reporting setup that answers your question, has understandable definitions, offers acceptable data access and can survive a moderator handover. Keep a short monthly note recording the decision made from the report. If nobody can name one, simplify the reporting before buying more features.
For moderation-heavy groups, pair this process with an anti-spam evaluation. A rising deletion count is a reason to inspect cases, not a success metric on its own.
